Boise Phil has created a robust educational program that answers the call of what is needed at this moment for a unique school year. The program will provide several educational opportunities to more students across the Treasure Valley and throughout Southern Idaho.
Through a digital education initiative, we aim to inspire children to appreciate classical music and to nurture a child’s development and skills as a musician. We believe music provides hope and healing, which we work to share with today’s youth.
Core to our education initiative is instructional music videos featuring Boise Phil musicians. Some videos will be geared toward elementary students while others will be geared toward advanced music students in junior high and senior high schools, Our Educator Resources videos are valuable materials for teachers as a supplement to classroom ensemble instruction.
Videos include:
Meet the Instruments – 17 videos introducing the various instruments of the modern symphonic orchestra. Here you can see our very own Boise Phil musicians demonstrating how amazing these instruments are.
Meet the Ensemble – 4 videos our ensembles (strings, winds, brass, and percussion). Demonstrating the various skills and techniques that go into creating a small ensemble performance. Choosing repertoire, rehearsing, and working together to create musical excellence.
Meet the Conductor – currently scheduled for two videos, one by Music Director Eric Garcia and one by Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Director Jennifer Drake, geared toward junior high and high school music programs.
COMING SOON! “SONIC BOOM!” – Sonic Boom! is an entertaining “how to” series that establishes a foundation for listening to and appreciating music for children ages 8 – 12. Inspired by the musical storytelling of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”, this ten-week program integrates illustrated stories with music to promote music literacy and guide young audiences in “audiation” – connecting music and the imagination.
